LongeVC Portfolio Company Rubedo Begins Hair Loss Trial of GPX4 Modulator RLS-1496
Our portfolio company Rubedo Life Sciences has announced a clinical study of RLS-1496 in androgenetic alopecia (AGA), beginning October 2026, with initial data expected in the first half of 2027. It is the first clinical evaluation of a GPX4 modulator in hair loss, extending the program that made RLS-1496 the first GPX4 modulator to enter human trials of any kind.
AGA affects roughly 50 million men and 30 million women in the US, yet the treatment landscape has seen no genuinely new FDA-approved approach in nearly 30 years. Existing therapies slow the hormonal signals behind follicular miniaturization. RLS-1496 targets the underlying aging biology instead: the senescent cells that accumulate in the follicular niche and suppress the stem cells responsible for hair growth. In an independent ex vivo study on human hair follicles from AGA patients, RLS-1496 significantly increased follicle elongation, with the highest dose directionally outperforming finasteride.
The trial will be led by Dr. David Pariser, former President of the American Academy of Dermatology and Principal Investigator in more than 450 dermatology clinical trials. Rubedo will also present the data at the Aging Research & Drug Discovery Meeting at Harvard, October 1 to 3, 2026.
