Mike Martin

Mike Martin is a professor of gerontopsychology at the University of Zurich, Switzerland (UZH). He is one of LongeVC's Advisory Board members.

Before becoming the director of the UZH Gerontology Center in 2002, he was co-director at the German Center for Research on Ageing in Heidelberg. In 2013, Martin initiated the interdisciplinary UZH Research Priority Program "Dynamics of Healthy Ageing" and worked with the World Health Organisation to improve the measurement of healthy ageing. He recently started the UZH Healthy Longevity Innovation Cluster, with over 30 research and innovation groups committed to using data on the complexity of longevity to support the personalisation and contextualisation of behavioural decision support systems. His research focuses on longitudinal and experimental studies of cognitive and social development across the lifespan, including studies examining predictors of development in childhood, middle adulthood, old and extreme old age. Recent publications include an encyclopedia of gerontology and a textbook on the psychological aspects of ageing.

Mike holds a Master's degree in Psychology from the University of Georgia, the USA, a PhD from the University of Mainz, Germany and completed his habilitation at the German Center for Research on Aging at the University of Heidelberg.
